The Italian municipality of Fornelli, located in the Molise region, has announced plans to unveil a monument dedicated to the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto, in a ceremony scheduled for May 1.
In a Facebook post published on April 23, local officials said the monument will be installed in Piazza Umberto I, one of the town’s main squares. The piece was designed by local artist Mattia Pannoni and financed by the Fornelli municipal government.
“It is important, indeed fundamental, as an administration, to take into consideration all the new ideas that come from our young people,” said Fornelli Mayor Giovanni Tedeschi.
A Bitcoin-Enthusiastic Town with Global Ambitions
Though relatively small—with a population of just 1,800 residents—Fornelli claims to have the highest density of Bitcoin adoption in the world, according to the municipality.
